The Move Downstairs by Dick King Smith
The stairs in my old cottage
They are as steep as hell
And even though I said I could manage them quite well
My family did not agree
They said the stairs would always be a hazard !!!!
‘You must move’ they said,
‘Before you fall and end up dead’
‘If you bust a bone or two, move down you must’
‘A down stairs bed’s the thing for you’
‘That’s what you must agree to do’
‘The dining room’s the place to go’
‘And next to it you’ll need, you know’
‘A Lavatory & a shower’
‘You’ll need new lights and points to power’
‘Washing machine, deep freeze & piles of other things’
‘And lovely tiles’
‘Below the walls a handsome floor’
‘And you will need a wider door’
‘All must be done in first class taste’
‘There isn’t any time to waste’
‘That’s what you must agree to do’
‘I said, “But what about
‘a builder who can plan this out?”
My family gave such a SHOUT!!!
